The Transit Police Board (SCBCTAPS) is responsible for the governance and oversight of the Transit Police Service. The Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General through Order-In-Council appoints the board members. The Transit Police Board is currently comprised of seven members:

• Peter W. Webster - Businessman (Civilian) / Board Chair
• William Brown – Businessman (Civilian)
• Peter German - District Commander, RCMP "E" Division
• Virginia Hasselfield - Businesswoman (Civilian)
• Ian Jarvis - Vice President, Finance and Corporate Services, TransLink
• Doug LePard - Deputy Chief Constable, Vancouver Police Department
• Baj Puri - Businessman (Civilian)

The Transit Police Board's mandate and authorities are set out by legislation. Core functions include:
• Appointing the Transit Police officers, subject to the minister's approval, including the Chief Officer and Deputy Chief Officers
• Establishing goals and priorities for the Transit Police
• Establishing rules respecting: the standards, guidelines and policies for the administration of the Transit Police; the prevention of neglect and abuse by the Transit Police Officers and the efficient discharge of duties and functions by the Transit Police personnel
• Ensuring that the Transit Police carries out its responsibilities in accordance with the Police Act, regulations and Minister's orders
• Responsibility for service and policy complaints against the police service, and discipline authority for complaints against the Chief Officer and Deputy Chief Officers.
