Overview

The Transit Police Board (SCBCTAPS) is responsible for the governance and oversight of the Transit Police Service. The Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General through Ministerial Order appoints the board members. The Transit Police Board is currently comprised of six members:

• Virginia Hasselfield, Civilian
• Baj Puri, Civilian
• Dale Parker, Civilian
• Sara Levine, Civilian
• Patricia Gallivan, Civilian

The Transit Police Board's mandate and authorities are set out by legislation. Core functions include:

• Appointing the Transit Police officers, subject to the minister's approval, including the Chief Officer and Deputy Chief Officers
• Establishing goals and priorities for the Transit Police
• Establishing rules respecting:  the standards, guidelines and policies for the administration of the Transit Police; the prevention of neglect and abuse by the Transit Police Officers and the efficient discharge of duties and functions by the Transit Police personnel
• Ensuring that the Transit Police carries out its responsibilities in accordance with the Police Act, regulations and Minister's orders
• Responsibility for service and policy complaints against the police service, and discipline authority for complaints against the Chief Officer and Deputy Chief Officers
