The pursuit of excellence is a key measure of character and an important one to us in recruiting new people to join Transit Police. Our five recent new recruits all have backgrounds and the kind of experience that exemplifies the pursuit of excellence and that reinforces their character.

One of our recruits has diverse previous career experience that includes working in banking and international finance, entrepreneurial pursuits in dog handling, where she obtained nationally-certified specialized skills. She has also worked in and has been certified in fitness and aerobics instruction.

Another of our recruits was born and raised in the Ukraine, where she earned, on scholarship, a Bachelor’s degree in education, going on to teach at a local school. She also worked in managerial positions in market research and contract negotiations for an agricultural company. After immigrating to Canada, she worked in a police jail, where she was able to occasionally apply her knowledge of the Russian and Ukrainian languages.

A third recruit attended private school for his primary and secondary education, where he was active in both sports and other school based activities. He also learned martial arts, advancing to teach junior classes. After attending Kwantlen College, he worked in the health and safety department of a Canadian-based multi-national company and in customer service and lending for a major financial institution. He is currently working towards obtaining an Associate Certificate in Leadership.

Another of our recruits attended an international boarding school in France where she studied French and then enrolled in a tri-lingual administrative program in Geneva, Switzerland. Fluent in English, French and German, as well as speaking some Spanish, when she moved back to Canada, she worked in a number of marketing positions. She most most recently worked as a co-coordinator to the head of the emergency department at BC Children’s Hospital and she has also volunteered with the Edmonton Police.

Our fifth new recruit has a diverse background in athletics and team leadership, receiving educational bursaries while playing on championships teams that competed internationally. His college education includes obtaining a diploma in human performance.

We look forward to these five new recruits soon bringing to our team their diverse and rich experience and the new skills they acquire during their current training at the Police Academy at the Justice Institute of BC.
