Safely Linking Communities.

The Transit Police Service was established to ensure the safety and security on and around public transportation that make up Metro Vancouver’s complex transit system.   Established in December 2005 as the Greater Vancouver Transit Authority Police Service, the Transit Police Service (South Coast British Columbia Transportation Authority Police Service) is Canada’s first dedicated transit police service.

Its strength is the 169 sworn police officers and nearly 70 civilian support staff.
Sworn officers include those previously with the RCMP or local municipal police services and bringing a wealth of experience to the TPS, as well as new officers trained at the B.C. Justice institute along with all municipal police officers.

Transit Police officers work closely with the 21 police jurisdictions that the transit system passes through to ensure a seamless delivery of service. Transit Police officers are considered supplemental to, but an integral part of, local police service delivery, and have the same authority and powers of other municipal officers in British Columbia.

To learn more about Police Service polices, read the SCBCTAPS Polices and Procedures Manual - Table of Contents (chapters index).
