Transit Police Arrest Knife and Clever Wielding Man

On January 05th at about 8:15 pm a frightened man approached two Transit Police Officers at Stadium Station. He reported he had just been walking in the alley east of the station and was being followed by a man carrying two knives.

The Transit Police Officers quickly located the male suspect and detained him. As a result of the investigation Transit Police are alleging they seized a meat cleaver and large steak knife from the suspect.

William G. GENAILLE, age 43, of Vancouver was taken into custody. He appeared in Vancouver court January 6th on weapons and assault charges. He has since been released on conditions. His next court appearance is January 21st. He is well known to police going back to 1985.

“Our attempts at being highly visible on the transit system paid off here, as it has in other situations”, says Deputy Chief of the Transit Police, George Beattie. We want people to know they can get, or request, help when at a SkyTrain station. Whether it is from using the emergency phone or in person from a SkyTrain Attendant or Transit Police Officer”.
